It’s time for the onset of the winter season in India and the pleasant irony is that it’s the warmth and the brightness of the diyas that welcome the much awaited cool weather. Very rightly called the “festival of lights”, this fête never fails to bring in happiness and hope in many a humdrum and disillusioned lives. Its amazing how illumination of a bunch of diyas on your balcony sill can bring so much joy in your life. Being away from your loved ones hits you hard especially during Diwali, which is an epitome of togetherness, belongingness, love, celebration, and happiness personified!
From what they call “white washing” the house, to preparing all the delicious bakshanams (goodies) in the world, from simply calling your loved ones to exchanging emails and messages for wishing “Happy Diwali”, from planning a get-together with your kith and kin to just relishing the bakshanams and bursting firecrackers, from the bright lights of the diyas that light up your heart and soul to the shopping for new garments, this is just a gala time that truly exemplifies “festivity”. No wonder why there is a great sentiment attached with this festival :)
It’s funny how parties are organized in the US to just emulate the fun and frolic that this festival promises year after year. “Diya”, the Diwali celebration at my university that was a concoction of the latka jhatkas, the great music, the late night-outs for the practice sessions, the preparations, the decorations, the dance parties that followed, is sorely missed! The cherished memories associated with this festival paradoxically make me emotional and brings a smile to my face :)
It’s time for the dazzling lights
It’s time for the vibrant sights
It’s time for the celebrated nights
It’s time for the scrumptious bites
So why wait,
Let’s celebrate!
A very happy Diwali and a prosperous year ahead to one and all! Amen!!!
Happy Diwali!

blog on diwali...
nicely encapsulated, well written... simple n sweet.
got me nostalagic tho.
always thought diwali counted amonsgt all the festivals where the male fraternity were told to pitch in with their share of offering pooja and showing the festive mood.
as a kid, i just loved it! had a chance to defy my mom's constant reminders of finishing up food, eating prasadam, offering prayers n the lot, by showing off that i was big enuf to step into dad's shoes n replcate all his pyrotechinc skills ( if u were). n by doing so was serving up my portion of being in the festive mood.
as rightly said, a celebration NIGHT for the kids to show their MIGHT much to theri parents DELIGHT by showcasing their newly attained HEIGHT.
hahah!! HEIGHT indeed.
PS: am certified as a LAKSHMI bomber, a rocket launcher and a snake charmer!!! loved the billowing smoke out of 'em pills.
great blog! keep 'em coming
Great blog!!!Thanks swetha for igniting the diwali spirits. For sure i miss all that real diwali beat. Those "yummy" foods, new clothes and my best part bursting crackers all night or (sometimes)the excitement of the wrong trajectory of the diwali rockets :-)...all this makes me say let the spirit of diwali be with you wherever you are..Happy Diwali to all!!!
